White Fillings
Modern filling materials mean that nowadays fillings can be natural looking as well as functional. White fillings can be used in almost all of the situations that silver fillings are used. When used in the correct situations white fillings can be as long lasting as silver fillings. There is a slight chance that some people may be allergic to the metals used in silver amalgam fillings. If this sensitivity is proven then it may be best to replace the amalgam fillings with white ones.

Amalgam Fillings
Silver amalgam has been used to fill teeth for many years. The material has been improved over the years and modern amalgam is very strong and durable and can be useful in situations where aesthetics are not important.

Root Fillings
Root canal treatment (also known as endodontics) is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth is infected through decay or injury.
If the pulp becomes infected the infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth and may eventually lead to an abscess. If root canal treatment is not carried out the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be taken out. The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal.
The root is cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure, which can sometimes need two or more visits.

Crowns
When teeth are extensively filled, they run the risk of fracture. A stronger form of restoration is a crown which acts like a thimble over the tooth. Well-made crowns need exacting work by both the dentist and a dental technician to ensure a perfect fit and good aesthetics. Where they don't show, crowns made from yellow gold are the least invasive and best tolerated restorations. Tooth coloured crowns are either made from white gold overlaid with porcelain, or increasingly from ceramics. Ceramics give a similar strength to white gold, but have more translucency and therefore a more natural appearance. We have examples of the different type of crowns at the surgery. We have carefully selected a few different technicians depending on the quality of aesthetics our patient’s desire.

Tooth veneers
In dentistry, a veneer is a thin layer of restorative material placed over a tooth surface, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface.

Dentures
Dentures in one form or another have been around for many years. The earliest recorded use of dentures was more than 2000 years ago. A denture is an appliance, which is worn to replace lost or missing teeth to enable you to enjoy a healthy diet and smile with confidence. A complete or full denture is one, which replaces all of the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. A partial denture fills in the spaces created by lost or missing teeth and can be attached to your natural teeth with metal clasps or devices called precision attachments. Dentures can be made to closely resemble your natural teeth so that little change in appearance will be noticeable. A well-designed and made denture can have a fantastic effect on your appearance.
